Job Description
The Student Pastor has a holy calling and stewardship of the young people of our church. The Student Pastor will ignite a passion in our students to consistent Bible study, prayer, service, evangelism, and worship through personal example and regular Church gatherings and special events. This role will also identify, develop, and mobilize parents and the larger church community in support of our students (6th grade through High School)
Key Responsibilities
Leadership
- Manages all student ministry programs, budgets, and volunteers
- Responsible for all classes attended by students of New Hope Baptist Church, whether taught personally or delegated to others
- Recruits, approves, develops, and oversees all who work, teach, and help in the Student Ministry ensuring that every worker has passed a formal background check and is approved for work with children
- Ensure that all student activities are staffed by a sufficient number of trained and authorized adults
- Communicate with students’ parents informing and including them in activities and encouraging them to disciple their own teens as the Bible tells us to do. Conducting periodic parent events.
Preaching & Teaching
- Identify, select, and teach age-appropriate curriculum in alignment with the Lead Pastor
- Teach twice-weekly at student gatherings (Sunday mornings, Wednesday evenings)
- Periodically prepare and deliver sermons during Sunday morning services in coordination with the Lead Pastor
Discipleship
- Disciple all students to further their spiritual growth. This involves helping them learn about Jesus and live according to the Scriptures with the goal of becoming obedient, mature, and fruitful followers of Christ
- Act as mentor and confidant, helping young people navigate the challenges of their adolescence by offering support and Biblical guidance.
Evangelism & Outreach
- Have complete knowledge and skills to explain to a teen their need for salvation, the love of Christ, and His only plan for salvation
- Plan and organize local mission opportunities for the students as well as encouraging participation in church wide mission / outreach opportunities
Special Events
- The Student Pastor plans and implements various programs and activities, such as Bible studies, student camp, student groups, retreats, 5 th quarter, and service projects, to engage young people and spark their spiritual growth and foster a sense of belonging and community
- Plan and execute annual fundraisers (e.g. Spaghetti lunch, chili cook-off, golf tournament)
Personal Development
- Connect with other leaders on staff relationally, professionally, and collaboratively and in personal accountability.
- Continuously develop their own knowledge, cultural awareness, and appropriate skills to maintain a vibrant student ministry relevant to a changing modern world
- Stay current with ministry trends by accessing media, attending approved conferences, and staying in touch with like-minded leaders in similar ministry positions.
- Pursue professional and educational development.
- Commit to personal spiritual health and development of a worship lifestyle.
Other
- Maintain the NHBC student website page and online social media presence
- Maintain a tidy and well-functioning ministry space both in the Student Ministry area and in the office
Qualifications and Requirements
Professional
- Exercises sound judgment and decision-making ability.
- Is a self-starter and self-motivator.
- Strives for excellence in all aspects of life and ministry.
- Strong organizational and leadership abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in budgeting, financial management, and project management.
- Familiarity with church operations and ministry practices.
Ministerial
- Is ordained, licensed, or commissioned for gospel ministry (or possess the necessary education/experience leading to ordination, licensure, or commissioning).
- Is qualified to lead in a pastoral role for the spiritual care of individuals including competence to guide people in spiritual decisions, baptizing, and other shepherding activities as may be required.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree is required (master’s degree preferred)
- 2+ years’ experience leading and ministering to students (grades 6-12)
Personal
- Personal testimony of salvation, service, and a call to ministry.
- Becomes a member of New Hope Baptist Church
- Displays impeccable loyalty to New Hope Baptist Church
- Regularly supports the ministry of New Hope Baptist Church through tithes and offerings
- Always maintains a positive attitude
- Is involved in personal evangelism and discipleship, in small groups and one-on-one settings
- Strives for excellence in all aspects of life and ministry
- Concerns themselves daily with spiritual maturity and growth, spending time in God’s word
